Ruben Anzaldua of Jewett Injured in Fatal Collision on Interstate 45 [Centerville, TX]

Centerville, TX (Aug. 10, 2023) – On Wednesday morning, Ruben Anzaldua, of Jewett, was injured in a big rig collision on Interstate 45 that killed 34-year-old Matthew Lawson of Marquez.

DPS officers said the fatal crash happened approximately one mile south of Centerville past midnight. Officers said the tractor semi-trailer was southbound on the freeway when it veered off the road.

Afterward, the driver overcorrected and the rig overturned and the tractor detached from the trailer. Investigating officers said there was no hazmat situation.

The driver, Matthew Lawson was pronounced dead at the scene. 

A passenger, Ruben Anzaldua was taken to a hospital in Tyler in critical condition.

Officers are investigating the fatal crash.
