Four People Hospitalized After Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 5 in Ridgefield

Ridgefield, WA (July 5, 2025) – A 19-year-old passenger Sadie L. Bobo from Portland died in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5.

A two-vehicle collision on southbound Interstate 5 near Ridgefield early Saturday morning claimed one life and sent four others to the hospital, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

At approximately 4:52 a.m., a 2006 Chevrolet Trail Blazer rear-ended a 2011 Nissan Versa in the right-hand lane just north of 179th Street.

After the initial impact, the Trail Blazer veered across the left two lanes, crashed into the center cable barrier, and eventually stopped on the left shoulder. The force of the crash pushed the Nissan Versa off the roadway, through a Department of Transportation fence, before it came to rest on Delfel Road.

Sadie L. Bobo, a 19-year-old passenger in the Trail Blazer from Portland, tragically died at the scene.

First responders transported the Trail Blazer’s driver, 23-year-old Skylar M. Wainis of Longview, to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for treatment. Authorities reported that Wainis faces charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. Another passenger in the Trail Blazer, 19-year-old Octavio L. Aguilar of Portland, was also hospitalized with injuries.

The driver of the Nissan Versa, 76-year-old Young H. Chun of Beaverton, and passenger 69-year-old Bikja Sung, also of Beaverton, sustained injuries and were taken to PeaceHealth Southwest for care.

The crash closed all southbound lanes of I-5 and the westbound on-ramp from SR 502 for over six hours. The Washington Department of Transportation reopened the lanes at 11:08 a.m.

Separately, while diverting traffic from the crash scene, a stationary WSDOT truck was struck by a speeding 2025 Riva RS1 around 7:14 a.m.

Authorities say the Riva’s driver, 20-year-old Noam Wecksler of Portland, failed to slow down and crashed into the WSDOT vehicle. Wecksler was uninjured but faces multiple charges, including second-degree negligent driving and distracted driving.

The WSDOT driver, 45-year-old David Hays of Battle Ground, sustained injuries and was transported to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center.
