Shocking School Bus Collision on Interstate 5 Led to Injuries [Lewis County, WA]

Four Injured After School Bus and Car Collide on I-5 in Lewis County

Lewis County, WA (October 14, 2025) — Four people were injured late Friday evening after a school bus collision on Interstate 5.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a bus carrying 16 passengers collided with a car just before midnight.

Reports say that a 22-year-old Lewis County man driving a Ford Mustang tried to pass another vehicle, lost control, and crashed into a northbound school bus from the Monroe School District. The impact sent both vehicles into the freeway median.

Troopers determined that the driver was traveling too fast for road conditions. The Mustang driver and the 54-year-old bus driver were both transported to Providence Centralia Hospital with injuries. Two bus passengers—a 49-year-old man from Texas and a 15-year-old boy from Snohomish—were also hospitalized for treatment.

Most of the 16 passengers on board the bus were teenagers between 14 and 18 years old, officials said.

High-speed crashes can happen in the blink of an eye—but the truth is, many are preventable. A few smart choices behind the wheel can make all the difference. Put your phone down, don’t drive after drinking, and always follow speed limits. Buckle up, give yourself space between cars, and stay alert to what’s happening around you. These simple steps can save lives—yours, your passengers’, and others on the road.

We all play a role in keeping our communities safe. Whether it’s avoiding distractions or keeping a safe following distance, quick decisions and awareness can prevent chain-reaction crashes and protect everyone on the road.

Always adjust your speed to match road and weather conditions. Driving too fast, even slightly, can quickly turn dangerous and put many lives at risk.
