Police Investigate School Bus VS Pickup Truck Crash on Westwood Street
Tulare County, CA (April 2, 2026) – A violent crash on Westwood Street involving a school bus and a pickup truck left one driver injured Thursday evening just south of Porterville in Tulare County.
According to crews, the school bus was traveling south on Westwood Street at about 6 p.m. and had stopped to make a left-hand turn.
Investigators say that, for reasons still under review, the bus moved directly into the path of an oncoming pickup truck that was traveling west on Highway 190.
The pickup was towing a flatbed trailer carrying a forklift when the collision happened.
Photos released by the Tulare County Fire Department show that the pickup truck was severely crushed in the impact.
Fortunately, no children were on the school bus at the time of the crash.
Emergency crews had to use the Jaws of Life to free the pickup driver from the wreckage.
The California Highway Patrol said the driver suffered probable moderate injuries but is expected to survive.
Officials temporarily closed Westwood Street while crews cleared the scene and conducted their investigation.
Authorities have not yet released additional details about what may have caused the crash.
