Sean Brinson In Critical Condition After Head-On Collision on Avenue M [Huntsville, TX]

Huntsville Police Officer Critically Hurt in Stolen Vehicle Crash, Undergoes Additional Surgery

Huntsville, TX (December 18, 2025) — Early Tuesday morning, Officer Sean Brinson sustained serious internal injuries after a head-on collision on Avenue M.

According to authorities, the collision happened around 1:45 a.m. near Avenue M and 8th Street as police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle.

Reports say that the Huntsville police officer remains in critical condition after suffering severe injuries during a crash involving the stolen vehicle.

Authorities say that a fleeing driver struck Brinson’s patrol car head-on while he responded to assist fellow officers.

First responders pulled Officer Brinson from his patrol car and provided emergency care at the scene before transporting him to a Houston-area hospital. Doctors performed surgery on Tuesday morning to address internal injuries and later took him in for a second operation to treat injuries to both legs. Officials expect he will need additional surgeries in the coming weeks.

Officer Brinson is a former U.S. Marine and previously served with the Dumas Police Department before joining the Huntsville Police Department in 2021. He lives in Huntsville with his wife and their two young children.

The Huntsville Police Department is coordinating donations to support Officer Brinson and his family, with a donation account established through Prosperity Bank.

Let’s Drive Safer Together

High-speed crashes can occur in the blink of an eye, but so many are preventable with small, intelligent decisions. Pay attention, don’t get distracted (say, by texting) and never drive after drinking. As ever – obey speed limits, buckle up and keep plenty of room between yourself and other vehicles. These are small enough measures to save lives — including your own.

We can all take steps to help keep our roads safe for ourselves, our families and our communities.

High-speed pursuits and reckless driving place officers and the public in serious danger. If you encounter emergency activity on the road, slow down, stay alert, and follow all traffic laws to help prevent devastating injuries.
