Police Investigate Crash on Marion Avenue in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (September 17, 2026)— Shanna Milazzo faces months of recovery after two men riding scooters struck her in a crash on Marion Avenue while she was walking near her apartment.
Milazzo, who normally spends six days a week working in kitchens and preparing food for customers, is now using a wheelchair while recovering at her Echo Park home.
Milazzo said she was walking less than a mile from her apartment when two scooter riders hit her on a neighborhood street known for attracting vehicle stunts.
According to Milazzo, she was told the riders had been performing wheelies in the area before the collision.
The impact left her with four broken ribs, a fractured tailbone, a fractured pelvis, and a fractured foot. She also suffered bone contusions and muscle tears in her right calf and shin.
Milazzo said the riders saw her and attempted to stop before skidding into her, causing her to flip during the collision.
An officer with the Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene, but Milazzo said emergency personnel were already transporting her to a hospital when police arrived.
Milazzo said the two riders were allowed to leave the scene. She also said they did not have identification, a driver’s license, or insurance.
The traffic collision report reportedly listed the riders’ speed at 25 mph, although Milazzo believes they were traveling faster.
The LAPD said officers completed a traffic collision report and that the investigation remains ongoing.
Meanwhile, Milazzo said mounting expenses have added to the challenges of her recovery.
She started an online fundraising campaign, and community members, including customers, have contributed to help her during her rehabilitation.
Milazzo said she is prepared for the difficult recovery ahead but remains frustrated about questions of accountability following the collision.
Seriously Injured in a Los Angeles Scooter or Pedestrian Accident? Sweet Lawyers Can Help You Understand Your Options
A pedestrian collision can cause life-changing injuries in a matter of seconds.
We hope Shanna Milazzo receives the medical care, rehabilitation, and community support she needs as she works through what may be a lengthy recovery.
Multiple fractures, muscle tears, and other traumatic injuries can make even basic daily activities difficult.
For someone whose livelihood depends on standing, walking, and working in a kitchen, injuries affecting the pelvis, foot, ribs, and lower leg may also create significant professional and financial challenges.
Medical appointments, physical therapy, mobility equipment, lost income, and other unexpected costs can quickly add pressure during an already painful recovery.
At Sweet Lawyers, we understand that people seriously injured in pedestrian and scooter collisions may have questions about what happened, what documentation matters, and what options may be available.
Our team approaches personal injury matters with compassion, professionalism, and careful attention to each person’s circumstances.
When a collision involves scooter riders, investigators may review police reports, witness accounts, surveillance footage, photographs, roadway conditions, and other available evidence.
Questions may also arise about rider identification, insurance coverage, scooter ownership, and whether other parties or policies are relevant depending on the facts.
For injured people, preserving information can be especially important.
Medical records, photographs of injuries, damaged clothing, receipts, work records, witness contact information, and copies of police reports may help document how the incident affected a person’s health, employment, and daily life.
An experienced personal injury attorney can review the available information and explain the legal process based on the circumstances. Every case is different, and no particular outcome can be guaranteed.
However, having knowledgeable support can help injured individuals better understand the process while they focus on treatment and rehabilitation.
Sweet Lawyers is committed to treating accident victims with dignity and respect.
