Two Sanger High School Cross-Country Athletes Die After Crash Near FM 455

Sanger, TX (June 2, 2025) — A tragic two-vehicle crash east of Sanger claimed the lives of Shawn Musgrave and Daniel Martinez, leaving the community grieving the loss of two young athletes.

Emergency crews responded around 10:30 p.m. on May 28 to a serious collision on FM 455 near Lake Crest Drive. Responders found two heavily damaged vehicles at the scene.

Authorities pronounced 2025 Sanger High School graduate Shawn “Sam” Musgrave dead at the scene. Two current Sanger High School students suffered serious injuries and were transported to a Denton-area hospital. One of those students, Daniel Martinez, later succumbed to his injuries.

School officials said both Musgrave and Martinez were members of the Sanger High School cross-country team. Counselors were made available to assist students and staff affected by the tragedy.

Investigators continue to examine the cause of the crash.
