Shawn Perez Lipscomb Arrested in Multi-Car Collision on Midkiff Road [Midland, TX]

High-Speed Intersection Crash in Midland Causes Severe Passenger Injury

Midland, TX (September 25, 2026) — On Thursday evening, 27-year-old Shawn Perez Lipscomb, an allegedly impaired driver, caused a violent multi-vehicle wreck on Midkiff Road that led to injuries.

Authorities say the crash happened at the busy intersection with Andrews Highway. Reports say that Lipscomb sped through a red light at a high rate of speed after consuming multiple alcoholic beverages, broadsiding another vehicle and causing a multi-car chain reaction.

While the drivers of the other vehicles escaped with minor bruises, a passenger riding inside the speeding vehicle bore the brunt of the impact. The force of the collision fractured the passenger’s arm.

Paramedics transported the injured passenger to a local medical center for treatment. Midland police officers arrested the driver at the scene following the evaluation.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), a person is injured in a motor vehicle crash every two minutes in Texas. In 2021 alone, more than 239,000 people were hurt in traffic accidents statewide — a sobering reminder that road safety is truly a matter of life and death.

Sadly, reckless and distracted driving continues to claim lives every day. Every few hours, another fatal crash happens somewhere in Texas. That’s why it’s so important to drive defensively, stay alert, follow the speed limit, and keep an eye out for others on the road. Safe driving is everyone’s responsibility.

Driving under the influence endangers everyone on the road. Always designate a sober driver or use a rideshare service to ensure your passengers and fellow motorists make it home safely.

Personal Injury Claims After a Traffic Collision: What You Need to Know

After a traffic collision, you may need to file a personal injury claim to recover damages. This legal process allows the victims to seek compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other expenses caused by the traffic collision. However, the process is often complex, and understanding how it works is crucial for anyone pursuing a claim.

The first step in a personal injury claim is to determine liability. In most cases, the driver responsible for the traffic accident, which could be due to negligence, distracted driving, speeding, or other factors, will be held accountable. Establishing fault is key to securing compensation. Gathering pieces of evidence such as police reports, traffic camera footage, witness statements, and medical records can strongly prove who was at fault.

Once liability is established, the injured party can then seek compensation for various types of damages. Medical expenses, which include hospital bills, rehabilitation costs, prescription medications, and any long-term care needs, will be a significant part of the claim.

Additionally, if the traffic collision resulted in lost wages or has impacted the victim’s ability to work, these financial losses can also be added to the claim.

Pain and suffering, which is a more subjective form of compensation, is one of the most debated aspects of a personal injury claim. Courts and insurance companies assess this based on how severely the victim was injured and the accident’s impact on the victim’s life, including physical and emotional distress.

Do not forget about the statute of limitations, which dictates the time frame within which a claim must be filed. Failing to file within this period may result in losing the right to pursue compensation.
