Shocking 3-Car Crash on Modoc Road Claims a Life [Santa Barbara, CA]

Santa Barbara, CA (April 18, 2025) On Tuesday afternoon, a person was killed, while 2 others were hurt in a shocking 3-car crash on Modoc Road.

According to authorities, the fatal crash happened around 12:30 p.m. on Modoc Road near Via Senda.

Reports say that a 19-year-old Goleta man died and two women were injured in the three-vehicle crash. The collision occurred when the man, driving a 2011 GMC Terrain eastbound, crossed into the westbound lane.

The GMC struck a 2023 Audi A4 head-on, driven by an 87-year-old Goleta woman, then sideswiped a 1998 Toyota Camry driven by a 49-year-old woman from Mariposa. The impact caused the GMC to overturn and come to rest against a raised concrete barrier.

Emergency personnel transported the Audi driver to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with major injuries. The Toyota driver declined hospital transport after on-scene evaluation. The GMC driver suffered critical injuries and later died at the hospital.

Authorities have not confirmed whether drugs or alcohol played a role. The California Highway Patrol urges anyone with information to contact the Santa Barbara Area office.

In a separate incident, another three-vehicle crash on State Route 154 west of San Antonio Creek Road blocked eastbound lanes, prompting CHP to respond and redirect traffic. Investigations into both crashes are ongoing.
