Teen Passenger Killed, Several Hurt After Car Mounts Sidewalk in San Diego

San Diego, CA (May 6, 2025) — A tragic crash on Navajo Road in San Diego left a teenage girl dead and several others injured after a vehicle veered onto a sidewalk and struck a pedestrian before crashing into a tree Sunday morning.

Police said a 35-year-old woman was driving a Mazda near the 7500 block of Navajo Road just before 11:40 a.m. when she lost control and drove onto the sidewalk, hitting an 18-year-old pedestrian. The car then continued forward and slammed into a tree in the center divider.

A 14-year-old girl who was riding in the vehicle died at the scene. Authorities have not yet released her identity.

The driver suffered a fractured ankle. Two young passengers—a 1-year-old boy and an 8-year-old boy—escaped without injuries. The pedestrian was transported to a hospital with a concussion and a serious arm injury.

Officials closed Navajo Road in both directions between Cowles Mountain Boulevard and Golfcrest Drive for several hours while crews investigated and cleared the crash site.
