Whatcom County, WA (June 28, 2025) — Two people sustained injuries in a rollover crash on Interstate 5 on Wednesday evening in a construction zone near Lake Samish in Whatcom County.
According to the Washington State Patrol, an 83-year-old man was driving northbound around 7:45 p.m. when he failed to merge properly while approaching the construction area near the North Lake Samish exit. His vehicle struck a barrier and overturned.

Let’s Drive Safer Together
Every time you drive, you’re part of something bigger—a shared space where everyone depends on each other to stay safe. That’s why being a responsible driver matters. Staying alert, following traffic rules, and showing courtesy on the road can go a long way in preventing accidents and protecting lives.
Safe driving isn’t just about you. It’s about your passengers, the people in other vehicles, and even pedestrians you may never meet. When we all make the effort to slow down, stay focused, and avoid distractions, we create safer roads for everyone.
One simple habit can make a huge difference: wearing your seatbelt. It only takes a second, but it can save your life. Whether you’re in the driver’s seat or riding along, make it a non-negotiable part of every trip.
Be especially careful around vehicles stopped on the side of the road, particularly on highways or in low-visibility conditions. Reduce your speed, stay aware of your surroundings, and move over when you can. These precautions help prevent further accidents and keep everyone safer.
Construction zones require extra caution. Slow down, follow merge signs early, and stay alert to changing traffic patterns to help prevent serious crashes and protect everyone on the road.
