Vado, NM (August 12, 2025) On Saturday evening, 2 people, including a Gadsden High School ninth grader, were killed in a tragic car crash on Highway 478.

According to New Mexico State Police, the collision occurred around 6:50 p.m. in the 8100 block of Highway 478.

Reports say that single vehicle hit a light pole before stopping in the front yard of a home.

The Gadsden Independent School District confirmed the death of one of its students and stated that his sibling, an 11th grader, also attends the same school. Counselors and mental health resources have been made available to students, staff, and families affected by the tragedy.

Authorities have not released the victims’ names or details on other possible injuries. The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
