Woman Arrested After Hit-and-Run Leads to Home Invasion in Grand Junction

Grand Junction, CO (January 24, 2026) — A child was hurt and hospitalized Friday afternoon after a hit-and-run crash on 28 Road that led to the arrest of 32-year-old Simcha Sparks.

Police responded just before 3 p.m. to reports of a vehicle running a red light at 29 Road and Riverside Parkway before slamming into the base of a bridge near 28 Road.

Investigators identified the driver as Sparks, who fled the crash scene while carrying a child.

According to authorities, Sparks later left the child in the roadway, climbed a fence, and forced entry through a window of a nearby home. The resident inside managed to escape through the front door as Sparks barricaded herself inside.

Officers entered the home and found Sparks in a room with a firearm. They took her into custody and booked her on multiple charges, including burglary, child abuse, DUI, and hit-and-run.

The child suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. Child Protective Services is assisting with follow-up care.

Traffic accidents can happen in an instant, but their consequences often last a lifetime. Practicing safe driving habits is the best way to protect yourself, your passengers, and others on the road. Always stay alert, avoid distractions like texting, and never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Wearing your seatbelt, obeying speed limits, and staying aware of pedestrians and cyclists can significantly reduce the risk of a collision. Maintain a safe following distance and adjust your speed for weather and road conditions to ensure you can react safely to unexpected hazards.

If you ever witness a serious accident or encounter blocked roadways, call 911 immediately and stay clear to allow emergency personnel to work safely. Driving attentively and responsibly helps keep our roads safe for everyone.

If you are involved in a crash, remain at the scene and ensure everyone’s safety. Fleeing an accident can lead to serious legal consequences and puts lives at further risk. If you or a loved one has been injured due to another driver’s actions, knowing your rights can make a critical difference.
