According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened around 2:32 p.m. on U.S. Highway 271, just south of the Titus County line.

Investigators said 16-year-old Gavin Brooks was driving a Nissan Altima northbound with his 21-year-old sister, Morgan Brooks, as a passenger when the vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and collided with an oncoming 18-wheeler.

Gavin and Morgan Brooks were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi, 48-year-old Simon Morales Gonzalez of Tyler, sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fatal crash.
