Teen Driver Detained After High-Speed Stolen Vehicle Crash Leaves Two Dead and Others Injured
Elk Grove, CA (June 2, 2025) — Skip Van and Tiffany Chu were killed after a deadly crash involving a stolen vehicle, which led to the detention of two juveniles after a high-speed police pursuit in Elk Grove early Sunday morning.
Police spotted a Hyundai driving recklessly on Brown Road around 4 a.m. When an officer attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle continued fleeing. During the pursuit, a rear passenger exited the Hyundai and fled on foot before the driver accelerated away.
Investigators said the Hyundai ran a red light at the intersection of Elk Grove Florin Road and Brown Road and crashed into a Tesla. The collision seriously injured the Tesla’s 55-year-old driver and injured a 63-year-old passenger, identified as Van and Chu, respectively.
Authorities detained the Hyundai’s occupants following the crash. The 14-year-old driver was hospitalized and is expected to face charges including vehicle theft, two counts of vehicular manslaughter, and felony evasion. A 13-year-old passenger was released to his parents.
The investigation remains ongoing.
