Injuries Reported in Mesa County Plane Accident on Highway 141

MESA COUNTY, CO (July 12, 2026) – Friday night, an alarming small engine aircraft crash on Highway 141 sent two people to the hospital.

The incident involving a downed small engine aircraft happened at about 4:40 p.m. on Highway 141, in a remote area between Whitewater and Gateway.

Two people escaped with injuries after a small-engine plane crashed in a remote area, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the pilot and an adult passenger were able to walk away from the crash site before being airlifted by CareFlight of the Rockies to an area hospital.

Deputies and crews from the Gateway Unaweep Fire District responded to the scene. Due to the remote location, responders had to reach the crash site on foot.

The sheriff’s office said the aircraft was not a commercial flight and had two adults on board.

The cause of the crash remains unknown. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are leading the investigation.
