Solo-Car Crash on East 61st Street Injures 2 [Kansas City, MO]

Kansas City, MO (May 16, 2025) — On Friday morning, two people suffered injuries after a single-vehicle crash on East 61st Street in Kansas City’s South Town Fork Creek neighborhood.

Police responded shortly before 7 a.m. to the intersection of East 61st Street and Swope Parkway.

Investigators said a Mitsubishi Galant was traveling west on East 61st Street at a high rate of speed when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign.

Authorities said the car crossed all lanes of Swope Parkway before crashing into two trees along the divided roadway.

Paramedics transported the driver to a hospital with serious injuries. A passenger also suffered injuries, though police said those injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Investigators are also looking into whether impairment may have contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
