Cajon Pass, CA (October 22, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, two people sustained severe injuries in a crash on Interstate 15.

The single-vehicle accident happened on southbound Interstate 15 between Oak Hills Road and Highway 138 exits at around 12:54 a.m. on October 22.

Police said the vehicle involved was a gray Nissan sedan, an unknown model.

The driver skidded and lost control, whereupon the vehicle struck the center divider and skidded down an embankment, according to a witness in the California Highway Patrol traffic log.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the vehicle about 100 feet below the freeway in the median in a ravine with two victims inside.

Responders used rescue equipment commonly referred to as “Jaws of Life” to gain access and extricate the victims. Simultaneously, rescue personnel completed a rope rescue system to bring both victims back to the roadway safely.

EMS transported the two patients to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
