Injuries Reported in Startling 4-Vehicle Crash on State Route 347 and Papago Road [Maricopa, AZ]

1 Person Hospitalized after Maricopa Multi-Vehicle Accident on State Route 347 and Papago Road

MARICOPA, AZ (March 1, 2026) – Thursday afternoon, a startling 4-vehicle crash on State Route 347 and Papago Road led to injuries.

The incident happened at about 4:05 p.m. in the southbound lanes of State Route 347 at Papago Road.

A dark red Ford Expedition, a black pickup truck, and a silver Toyota RAV4 were left disabled in the median, while a white Tesla came to rest in the southwest corner of the intersection. The Tesla’s airbags deployed, and reporters at the scene observed its front trunk open as investigators examined the vehicle.

Emergency crews from Maricopa Police, Ak-Chin Police, Ak-Chin Fire and Medical, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety responded. An Ak-Chin fire engine blocked the southbound lanes of State Route 347 as crews worked.

As of 4:45 p.m., southbound SR 347 remained fully closed at Papago Road.

DPS spokesperson Bart Graves described the incident as a four-vehicle crash with serious injuries in the southbound lanes. One person was transported to a local hospital.

Maricopa Police said DPS is leading the investigation and described their role as assisting the agency.
