Injuries Reported in San Francisco Vehicle Crash on 551 Nevada Street

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (January 20, 2026) – Sunday afternoon, a car crashed into a church following a startling auto accident on 551 Nevada Street.

The incident happened just before 2:25 p.m. on 551 Nevada Street, between Ogden and Crescent avenues.

A vehicle crashed into a church building shortly after services on Sunday, narrowly missing families who had been gathered inside with young children.

Several families with babies and strollers were seated in the area where the vehicle struck. One mother was holding her infant at the time of the crash.

Fire officials said seven people were evaluated at the scene for what were believed to be minor injuries. Three others were taken to a hospital for further treatment.

The fire department said the crash appeared to be accidental. Members of both congregations said the driver was an elderly man who was attempting to turn around in the parking lot. He was not affiliated with either church and remained at the scene.

City officials requested a structural evaluation before utilities can be restored or anyone allowed back inside the building. A contractor who assessed the damage said parts of the walls may be unstable.

Authorities cleared the scene around 2:30 p.m.
