Injuries Reported in Van Zandt County Auto Accident on Highway 64 near FM 314

VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (September 15, 2026) – Sunday, a person was airlifted after a startling diesel tanker crash on Highway 64 near FM 314.

The incident happened on Highway 64, around 1/4 mile west of FM 314.

Three people were injured after a tanker carrying about 7,000 gallons of diesel fuel crashed into two vehicles and overturned on Highway 64, according to the VFD.

The tanker was traveling westbound when it struck a pickup truck near the exit of a convenience store and rolled onto its side. Afterward, the tanker then struck a car traveling eastbound before coming to rest partially in the eastbound lane and partially in a ditch, the fire department said.

One person was trapped and had to be freed by first responders and bystanders. Reports confirmed that the tanker began leaking fuel from multiple compartments into the roadway and ditch, creating a significant hazard.

Crews set up a landing zone for an EMS helicopter and used foam fire streams to help control the fuel spill. One patient was flown to a hospital, while two others were treated and released at the scene.

A hazmat team arrived and began offloading the fuel before the tanker could be uprighted and removed. Highway 64 was closed in both directions for several hours during the crash response and cleanup, according to the VFD.
