Brayan Lorenzo-Gomez Detained after Startling DUI Crash on Cottage Grove Avenue [San Mateo, CA]

15-Year-Old Boy Injured in San Mateo Bicycle Accident on Cottage Grove Avenue and S Norfolk Street

SAN MATEO, CA (December 9, 2025) – Friday, Brayan Lorenzo-Gomez was detained after a startling DUI crash on Cottage Grove Avenue.

The incident happened on Cottage Grove Avenue and South Norfolk Street.

The suspect, 24-year-old Brayan Lorenzo-Gomez, pleaded not guilty to the charges during a court appearance on Friday.

Prosecutors said he was intoxicated on December 3 when he veered into a bike lane and hit a teenage boy who was riding an electric bicycle. The boy and the bike were dragged for two blocks before the boy fell off, according to the DA’s office. Lorenzo-Gomez allegedly kept driving for several more blocks, still dragging the bicycle, before crashing into two parked cars.

San Mateo police found him hiding under a parked vehicle and recovered 0.5 grams of methamphetamine, prosecutors said. Officers also found 14 empty beer cans inside the wrecked car. The boy’s injuries have not yet been disclosed.

Lorenzo-Gomez pleaded not guilty to the following charges:

• Driving under the influence of a drug causing injury
• Leaving the scene of an accident
• Two counts of hit-and-run resulting in property damage
• Possession of a controlled substance

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 18. He remains in custody with bail set at $50,000.
