Injuries Reported in San Diego Bicycle Accident on Del Mar Heights Road

SAN DIEGO, CA (May 4, 2026) – Saturday night, a 12-year-old rider sustained injuries in a startling e-bike crash on Del Mar Heights Road.

The incident happened at about 5:40 p.m. on Del Mar Heights Road.

A 12-year-old riding an e-bike westbound in the bike lane on Del Mar Heights Road was struck while attempting a left turn onto southbound Old Carmel Valley Road, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Police said a 64-year-old man driving a 2023 Tesla Model Y was traveling in the same direction when the front passenger side of the vehicle hit the child.

The child suffered life-threatening injuries, including multiple brain bleeds requiring surgery and a fractured clavicle.

Authorities said alcohol was not a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
