Injuries Sustained in Chico Motorcycle Accident on State Route 99 near East 20th Street

CHICO, CA (June 2, 2026) – Sunday, a startling motorcycle crash on State Route 99 near East 20th Street led to minor injuries.

The incident occurred on the northbound side of State Route 99 near East 20th Street on-ramp.

According to the Chico Fire Department, the crash involved a single motorcyclist who laid the bike down before it immediately caught fire. No other vehicles were involved.

One witness reported the rider may have been performing wheelies before the crash, though officials said they cannot confirm the cause at this time.

Agencies responding included CAL FIRE Butte Unit and the California Highway Patrol Chico office. Fire crews extinguished the flames in under two minutes and remained on scene briefly before turning the investigation over to CHP.

A witness reportedly used fire extinguishers from a nearby boat to help put out the fire before responders arrived. The rider remained with the witness until emergency crews arrived and was later transported to Enloe Medical Center with minor injuries.

CHP remained on scene while awaiting a tow truck to remove the motorcycle. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
