EUREKA, CA (February 18, 2026) – Tuesday afternoon, a startling traffic crash on 4200 Broadway and Herrick Avenue closed lanes.

The incident happened in the 4200 block of Broadway and Herrick Avenue.

The Eureka Police Department said officers are at the scene of a crash and are asking drivers to avoid the area while emergency crews work. Fire engines and multiple police units have been dispatched.

Caltrans reported that both northbound lanes on Broadway (U.S. 101), north of Herrick Avenue in Eureka, were fully closed due to the collision.

Authorities said multiple callers reported a black GMC Denali with out-of-state plates driving erratically before the crash.

Traffic monitoring on QuickMap shows heavy congestion in the southbound lanes south of Allard Avenue, with vehicles moving slowly or at a standstill as backups continue to grow.

As of 2:03 p.m., southbound traffic was routed around the crash, but delays were reported in both directions. Drivers were urged to avoid the area if possible.
