Merkel Man Dies in Crash at Taylor County Intersection

Taylor County, TX (May 12, 2025) — A 62-year-old Steven Anderson from Merkel died Monday afternoon following a two-vehicle collision on FM 1235 in Taylor County.

Investigators said the collision occurred around 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of FM 1235 and Wimberly Road, northeast of Merkel.

According to preliminary findings, a car traveling south on Wimberly Road failed to stop at a stop sign before entering the intersection. An eastbound pickup truck on FM 1235 then struck the vehicle.

Authorities identified the pickup driver as Steven Greg Anderson, 62, of Merkel. Investigators said Anderson was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the collision. He died at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.

Officials continue to investigate the fatal crash.
