Bakersfield, CA (June 17, 2025) — 24-year-old Steven Bernal of Bakersfield lost his life following a head-on collision early Saturday morning on 24th Street.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers responded to the crash shortly after 1 a.m. Investigators determined that Bernal was driving eastbound on 24th Street at a high rate of speed, without headlights, when his vehicle collided head-on with another car.

Emergency crews transported Bernal to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The other driver suffered minor injuries and received treatment at a hospital.
