Phoenix Court Employee Killed in Pedestrian Crash Near Downtown Intersection

Phoenix, AZ (February 13, 2026) — The City of Phoenix is mourning the loss of 60-year-old Susan Hawkins, a longtime court employee who died after a pedestrian crash Wednesday afternoon near downtown.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded around 4:30 p.m. to the area of Washington Street and 3rd Avenue, where Hawkins, had been struck by a truck.

Reports say that Hawkins, suffered critical injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

Investigators said the truck remained at the scene and that preliminary findings indicate the driver was making a turn when the collision occurred. Authorities do not believe impairment played a role in the crash.

Hawkins worked as a hearing officer with the Phoenix Municipal Court and had served the city for decades. City leaders remembered her as a dedicated public servant whose work helped improve neighborhoods and strengthen communities across Phoenix.

The investigation remains ongoing.
