Suspected DUI Crash on I-15 Kills 2 People [North County, CA]

North County, CA (June 13, 2025) — Early Thursday morning, two people lost their lives after a suspected impaired driver struck them while they were assisting at the scene of an earlier crash on Interstate 15.

The fatal collision happened shortly after 4 a.m. on the northbound I-15 just north of State Route 76. According to the California Highway Patrol, the victims had stopped to help following an initial single-vehicle crash when another vehicle hit them.

Authorities arrested the driver involved in the second collision on suspicion of driving under the influence. The suspect was booked into the Vista jail. Officials have not released the identities of the victims or the arrested driver.

The crash prompted a full closure of the northbound I-15 for several hours as investigators examined the scene. Traffic was diverted at State Route 76, causing significant delays throughout the morning commute. Several freeway ramps were also temporarily closed before crews partially reopened the roadway.

Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding both crashes.
