1 Dead and 3 Hurt in Mississippi County Auto Accident on MO 80 near East Prairie

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (September 1, 2026) – Sunday, a teen died while three others were injured in a startling 2-vehicle crash on MO 80 near East Prairie.

The incident happened just after midnight on MO-80 just outside of East Prairie.

A 16-year-old boy from Sikeston was killed after a passenger car collided with an SUV, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

MSHP said the passenger car was traveling northbound when it failed to yield to an eastbound SUV, resulting in the crash. The teenage driver died at the scene.

Three people inside the SUV were injured. Two were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while another was flown to a St. Louis hospital with serious injuries. The SUV driver was not injured.

Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
