VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (August 26, 2026) – Tuesday, a person died in a devastating tractor-trailer crash on State Highway 19 near County Road 2205.

The crash involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle happened on State Highway 19 near County Road 2205, south of Canton, in Van Zandt County.

According to the South Van Zandt Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to the crash around 6:15 a.m.

When crews arrived, they found the Jeep Wrangler and an 18-wheeler involved in the collision, with the driver trapped inside the truck. Canton firefighters extinguished a vehicle fire, but the driver could not be saved.

Firefighters from both departments worked to free the 18-wheeler driver, who was transported to a hospital for treatment.

A preliminary investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety found that the Jeep was traveling northbound when it crossed into the southbound lane and struck the 18-wheeler.
