Tragic Traffic Accident on Van Buren Boulevard Kills 2 Pedestrian [Riverside, CA]

Riverside, CA (June 27, 2023) On Sunday evening, a traffic accident on Van Buren Boulevard killed 2 pedestrians.

According to the Riverside Police Department (RPD), the fatal auto-pedestrian crash happened around 11:48 p.m. at Van Buren Boulevard and Challen Avenue.

Reports say that a 17-year-old male Perris resident was driving a speeding 2011 GMC pickup truck and fatally struck 2 pedestrians. Officials say that the teen driver lost control of the vehicle before hitting both pedestrians, described to be adults in their 20s.

Authorities say that the vehicle struck a pole after hitting the pedestrians, officers are investigating the auto-pedestrian crash and are looking into the possibility of drugs or alcohol being factors to the crash. Officials say that an open container was found inside the vehicle.

Police say that the driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital. Officials say that they are going to detain the teen, who was driving without a license.

RPD says that the victims identities are not yet released pending family notifications.
