Woman and Dog Killed, Three Injured in Multi-Car Crash on 405 Freeway Near Westwood

Santa Monica, CA (February 8, 2025) – A 72-year-old woman and a dog was tragically killed after a multi-vehicle traffic collision on Highway 405 Friday evening.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident happened around 6:45 p.m. on the 405 Freeway near Westwood.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and rescued one person who was trapped inside a vehicle.

Authorities confirmed that the elderly woman and the dog did not survive the crash. Emergency responders transported three other victims for medical treatment, with two in critical condition and a 60-year-old woman in fair condition.

Following the crash, officials issued a SigAlert, shutting down three northbound lanes until just after 10:30 p.m. Meanwhile, a dog that had escaped onto the freeway was later recovered by authorities.
