Two Hurt After Crash on I-55 to US 61 Ramp in Jefferson County
Jefferson County, MO (May 20, 2025) — Two people were injured Sunday afternoon following a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 55 in Jefferson County, Missouri.
The crash happened around 1:10 p.m. on May 17, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. A 56-year-old Festus man was stopped on the ramp while driving a 2007 Chevrolet 2500. At the same time, a 70-year-old De Soto woman was traveling northbound on U.S. 61 near the Interstate 55 interchange in a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu.
Authorities said the pickup driver began a left turn from his stopped position, and the Malibu struck the left side of the truck.
Emergency crews transported the Festus man to Mercy Hospital Jefferson with minor injuries. The De Soto woman suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital South.
The pickup sustained moderate damage but remained drivable, while the Malibu sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene.
When you’re behind the wheel, remember—you’re not alone out there. Every time you drive, you’re part of a community that shares the road. That’s why it’s so important to stay alert, drive responsibly, and respect others. Safe driving doesn’t just protect you; it keeps your loved ones, neighbors, and even total strangers safe too.
If we all do our part—slow down, stay focused, and avoid distractions—we can make the roads safer for everyone.
And don’t forget the simplest safety tip of all: always buckle up. Whether you’re the driver or a passenger, wearing your seatbelt is one of the easiest and most effective ways to prevent serious injury in a crash. Sweet Lawyers encourages everyone to make it a habit—every trip, every time.
We wish both individuals involved a full and speedy recovery. Please drive cautiously near highway ramps and interchanges, where traffic patterns can change quickly and visibility may be limited.
