Driver Arrested After Hitting Bicyclist, Skateboarder, and Vehicle in Pierce

Pierce County, WA (November 12, 2025) — Authorities arrested a driver Monday afternoon after a crash on 96th Street South left a bicyclist critically injured and others hurt.

Deputies responded around 2 p.m. to the 2400 block of 96th Street South near the Woodmark Apartments.

Investigators said the driver sped up and struck two males—one riding a bicycle and the other on a skateboard—as they crossed the street.

After hitting the bicyclist, the driver reportedly over-corrected and collided head-on with another vehicle carrying a woman and a 1-year-old child. Both were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while the skateboarder was unhurt. The 31-year-old bicyclist sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

Deputies took the driver into custody on suspicion of vehicular assault. Authorities said charges could be upgraded to vehicular homicide if the bicyclist does not survive. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash.
