3 People Rescued After Nissan Crashes Beneath Dump Truck on State Route 78 in Vista
Vista, CA (July 2, 2026) — Three People became trapped after a crash on State Route 78, where a Nissan sedan crashed underneath a dump truck in an active construction zone late Monday night.
The collision happened around 11:11 p.m. near Mar Vista Drive. Multiple 911 callers reported that a passenger vehicle had become lodged beneath the rear of a dump truck assigned to a freeway construction project.
Firefighters, who were already responding to another nearby incident, arrived within minutes and found two adults and an infant trapped inside the heavily damaged sedan. Rescue crews carried out an extensive extrication before safely removing all three occupants.
Paramedics transported the injured people to local trauma centers for treatment. Authorities have not released information about the severity of their injuries.
The crash was the third reported collision within about a mile of the construction zone over the course of roughly an hour, keeping emergency responders busy throughout the night.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
