High-Speed Police Chase in Tumwater Leaves Woman Critically Injured
Tumwater, WA (July 19, 2025) A 70-year-old woman is in critical condition after a shocking traffic crash on Tumwater Boulevard on Friday morning.
According to Tumwater Police, the violent collision happened at around 8:45 a.m. at the intersection with Capital Boulevard.
Reports say that a police pursuit ended in a violent crash at a busy Tumwater intersection.
Tumwater Police officers located an 18-year-old man wanted on a felony warrant from King County. Officers found him asleep in a car parked near New Market Street and Tumwater Boulevard. They placed a pursuit intervention device under the vehicle and attempted to speak with him. However, the man refused to exit and sped off.
As police tried to catch up, the suspect crashed into two vehicles at the intersection of Capital and Tumwater boulevards. One of the impacted vehicles veered into a building on the southeast corner of the intersection. The 70-year-old woman driving that car was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Her daughter later confirmed she had simply been out running errands before the collision.
Employees of a nearby physical therapy office recounted how the car nearly slammed into their building’s windows. Fortunately, no one inside the building was hurt, and the vehicle did not breach the structure.
Police reported that the second vehicle involved sustained only minor damage, and its occupants suffered minor injuries.
The suspect fled the crash site on foot but was quickly apprehended by a Tumwater officer. Authorities confirmed the vehicle he drove—a new GMC Denali with temporary tags—had been reported stolen during a July 10 carjacking in Tukwila. However, it remains unclear whether the 18-year-old was involved in that carjacking.
He did not suffer injuries in the crash. Police are processing him for DUI and plan to book him into jail once their investigation concludes. The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the case.
Keeping the Road Safe is Everyone’s Responsibility
Be a defensive driver to prevent road accidents. Stay alert, maintain a safe distance, and always expect the unexpected. Avoid distractions, obey speed limits, and use your signals. Watch for pedestrians and cyclists. A proactive, cautious approach keeps everyone safer on the road. Drive smart, drive safe!
If you or a loved one were injured in a traffic collision, it’s vital to seek medical attention immediately and know your legal options. Crashes caused by reckless drivers can change lives in an instant—stay alert, drive responsibly, and never attempt to flee from law enforcement.
A Personal Injury Claim Could Help
A personal injury case is critical after a car accident, especially when there is an injured party caused by another driver’s carelessness. Automobile accidents can lead to painful physical injuries, emotional distress and financial ruin. Medical expenses, lost income, and expenses for long term recovery don’t take long to add up. One option for reaching a fair resolution to these damages is a personal injury lawsuit.
Filing a court action holds the wrongdoer accountable. It also forces insurance providers to offer a reasonable settlement, rather than a low-ball offer that may not be enough to cover all of your losses. In too many instances, the insurers who shouldn’t be in the business of trying to maximize their profits often look for ways to minimize their payouts. And your rights will be protected with the personal injury claim throughout this process.
Also, in a personal injury lawsuit, you may be able to recover noneconomic damages such as pain and suffering or loss of enjoyment of life. It’s often no less important than your medical bills. In suing, you also encourage safer driving by reinforcing the accountability of reckless or negligent drivers.
If you do retain an experienced personal injury lawyer, the case is likely to proceed much more smoothly and not only will you be led through the legal process, you will likely have a better chance of a positive outcome as well.
