Seattle Woman Killed After Exiting Moving Vehicle on I-5 in Federal Way

Federal Way, WA (August 12, 2026) — A tragic accident on Interstate 5 led to the death of a 33-year-old Seattle woman early Monday after she exited a moving vehicle and was struck by another car.

Washington State Patrol troopers responded to the crash around 12:17 a.m. near South 272nd Street. Investigators said the woman had been riding in a vehicle traveling in lane three when she got out while the vehicle was still moving. A second vehicle traveling northbound in lane one then struck her.

The woman died at the scene. Both vehicles stopped on the right shoulder following the crash.

Troopers closed the northbound lanes for about three hours and 45 minutes while they investigated. Authorities have not determined why the woman left the moving vehicle or whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
