Tragic Bicycle Accident on Capistrano Drive Kills 1 [Petaluma, CA]

Petaluma, CA (May 29, 2025) – A horrific bicycle accident on Capistrano Drive left a person dead Wednesday afternoon.

According to authorities, the crash occurred around 3 p.m. at the intersection of S. Ely Boulevard and Capistrano Drive.

Reports say that a bicyclist died Wednesday afternoon after a collision with a vehicle in Petaluma.

Both the bicyclist and the driver were traveling northbound on S. Ely Boulevard when the crash happened.

Responding officers arrived shortly after receiving 911 calls and found the bicyclist had already succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident.

Authorities have confirmed both the driver and bicyclist are male, but have not released their names or ages. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is withholding the bicyclist’s identity pending family notification.

The driver, who was operating an Acura SUV with visible windshield damage, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police stated that alcohol or drugs do not appear to have played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
