10-Year-Old Dies After Head-On Crash in Rancho Cordova

Rancho Cordova, CA (October 1, 2026) — On Wednesday morning, a 10-year-old child died after a head-on collision on Mather Boulevard near Douglas Road in Rancho Cordova, California.

The crash occurred on southbound Mather Boulevard near Mather Heights Elementary School. Investigators said a gray Hyundai Elantra carrying the child and the child’s mother crossed the double yellow lines and collided with a northbound Chevrolet Equinox.

Emergency crews transported the child and the mother to a hospital with critical injuries. The child later died from the injuries. The Equinox driver, an elderly woman, also suffered major injuries and was hospitalized.
