According to the Escondido Police Department, the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Redwood Street. Investigators said a man was crossing the roadway when an eastbound vehicle struck him and fled the scene without stopping.

Emergency responders transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Officials have not yet released his identity.

During the investigation, officers located a vehicle believed to be connected to the collision abandoned a short distance away. Detectives are also examining whether a second vehicle may have been involved in the incident.
