Tragic Crash on 18th Street Kills Pedestrian

Pedestrian Killed in Crash During Police Pursuit in Kansas City

Kansas City, MO (July 23, 2026) — A tragic crash on 18th Street left a pedestrian dead early Wednesday morning after a fleeing driver struck them while being pursued by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened near the intersection with Prospect Avenue around 1 a.m. as authorities chased a white Chevrolet Trax that was reportedly being driven recklessly. Investigators said the pedestrian was crossing 18th Street in a marked crosswalk when the SUV hit the victim and continued east without stopping.

The pursuing trooper immediately ended the chase to render aid, but emergency responders pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity. The driver fled after the collision, and the investigation remains ongoing.
