Tragic Crash on Interstate 40 Claims a Life [Torrance County, NM]

Torrance County, NM (August 29, 2026) — On Sunday, a deadly crash on Interstate 40 WB near mile marker 193 killed one person and critically injured another.

The collision happened as traffic slowed because of an earlier crash in the area. Emergency crews transported the critically injured victim by ground ambulance to an Albuquerque-area hospital, while responders pronounced another person dead at the scene.

A fire also broke out during the response, but firefighters quickly extinguished it.

The Torrance County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate both collisions.
