SAN YSIDRO, CA (September 11, 2023) – Sunday morning, a tragic DUI crash on Interstate 805 near State Route 905 killed one person.

The incident happened at around 5:30 a.m. on Interstate 805 near State Route 905.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Jesse Matias, a northbound Volkswagen traveling at a high rate of speed rear-ended a Honda SUV.

Moreover, officers confirmed that the Honda driver, a 58-year-old Tijuana resident, died in the crash. Then, paramedics transported the Volkswagen driver, a 21-year-old Escondido resident, to a hospital with unknown injuries.

Furthermore, officers arrested the Volkswagen driver on suspicion of DUI.

At this time, the cause of the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
