Tragic Head-On Crash on SR 9 Kills 1 and Injures 4 [Sedro Woolley, WA]

(November 23, 2023) On Wednesday afternoon, a 35-year-old woman was killed and 4 other people were hurt after a head-on crash on SR 9.

According to the Sedro-Wooley Police Department (SWPD), the tragic traffic crash happened around 4 p.m. on State Route 9 near Green St. Blvd and State St.

Officials say that a Chevy Trailblazer crashed head-on into a Pontiac Sedan.

Reports say that the 33-year-old male driver of the Chevy was involved in the domestic violence assault, then sped off in the Chevy with a 24-year-old woman as a passenger.

Police say that the Chevy hit a patrol car during the escape, a chase was attempted, however, police lost sight of the vehicle as it sped southbound on SR 9.

Authorities then learned that the Chevy was involved with a head-on collision with the Pontiac north of the Skagit River. The Pontiac had 3 occupants, a 41-year-old man, a 35-year-old woman, and an 11-year-old child.

WSP says that the 35-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene, while the 41-year-old man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, while, the 11-year-old was taken to Skagit River Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Chevy driver was also airlifted to Harborview, and the female passenger was taken to Skagit Valley Hospital.

WSP and the Skagit-Island County SMART team are investigating the violent traffic crash.
