According to San Antonio police, the fatal crash happened at about 9 p.m. in the 12100 block of I-35 in the northbound lanes near a construction zone.

Reports say that the accident happened when the Altima rear-ended the 18-wheeler, resulting in severe injuries to a backseat passenger, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet identified the deceased. The driver and the other passengers were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
