Police Investigate Crash Near T. Rex Falls in Wilkeson

WILKESON, WA (June 26, 2026) — Two people were airlifted to local hospitals in a crash near T. Rex Falls when a vehicle slid off a mountain road near Wilkeson and fell about 250 feet late Thursday night.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened near T. Rex Falls, about 12 miles from Wilkeson in the mountains. Search-and-rescue teams responded shortly after 10:00 p.m. after one person used an iPhone SOS call to report the emergency.

As rescuers approached the area in an off-road vehicle, they found two people walking down the road. Those individuals told crews that their vehicle had rolled over near the top of a mountain and that two others remained trapped inside.

Officials said the trapped victims, a 30-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, were found about 250 feet down a cliff. One victim was pinned beneath the engine compartment, while the other had been ejected and became trapped in dense brush.

Cold, wet, and foggy weather made the rescue extremely difficult, even for specialized vehicles. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from rope technicians and volunteer search-and-rescue teams.

Whidbey Island Search and Rescue hoisted one victim from the crash site and flew him to a hospital. Crews, including firefighters and a doctor, worked to stabilize both victims before transporting them for emergency medical care.

Authorities said the rescue lasted nearly 11 hours. Some search-and-rescue personnel remained at the scene to help East Pierce Fire and Rescue recover equipment. Officials said the vehicle would not be towed and would remain where it came to rest.

Compassionate Legal Support After Serious Rollover and Mountain Road Crashes

A severe rollover crash in a remote mountain area can be terrifying for victims, families, and rescuers.

When a vehicle leaves the road, falls down a cliff, and traps occupants for hours, the physical and emotional impact can be life-changing.

Sweet Lawyers sends sincere support to the two people airlifted after this Wilkeson crash and hopes they receive the medical care and strength needed for recovery.

Serious rollover crashes often require detailed investigation. Authorities may need to examine road conditions, lighting, weather, visibility, speed, vehicle maintenance, tire condition, guardrails, driver actions, and whether any hazards contributed to the vehicle leaving the roadway.

In remote areas, weather and terrain can also make emergency response more difficult, increasing the seriousness of injuries and complicating evidence collection.

Victims of rollover accidents may suffer significant injuries, including head trauma, spinal injuries, broken bones, internal injuries, crush injuries, severe lacerations, and emotional distress.

Even after emergency air transport and initial treatment, the recovery process may involve surgery, hospitalization, rehabilitation, missed work, and long-term medical needs.

Families may also face uncertainty while trying to understand what happened and how to manage the financial burden of the crash.

Insurance claims after serious crashes can be complicated, especially when multiple passengers, remote terrain, and severe injuries are involved.

Injured victims should be cautious before giving recorded statements or accepting early settlement offers. A quick settlement may not reflect future medical care, lost income, pain, trauma, or lasting disability.
