Both Drivers Fatally Injured in Potrero Two-Vehicle Accident
POTRERO, CA (December 26, 2018) – Two people died after a crash on a remote stretch of a two-lane highway in Barrett Junction on Thursday, December 20.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at around 10:55 p.m. on Highway 94, also known as Campo Road, west of Highway 188, which is the highway that leads to Tecate in Baja California, Mexico.
The CHP stated that both drivers sustained fatal injuries in the head-on collision.
Officer Travis Garrow said that a woman was driving a 2007 Ford Fusion at a high rate of speed east on Highway 94 when she allowed the vehicle to cross the double yellow line and into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
The Fusion collided into a 2004 Honda Accord driven by a 35-year-old Dulzura man, according to Garrow.
Emergency responders pulled the Honda driver from the vehicle, however, he was pronounced dead at the scene, as did the woman driving the Ford.
Officials have not yet released the names of both drivers as of early Friday afternoon.
The CHP incident log stated that a 911 caller said it appeared to be a head-on accident, and at least one car involved caught fire.
