Police Investigate  Crash on Westbound Interstate 10 Near Rest Area in Whitewater

WHITEWATER, CA (June 30, 2026)— Two people were injured Tuesday afternoon after a single-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 10 near the Whitewater Rest Area.

According to the Riverside County Fire Department, the crash was reported at about 3:20 p.m.

The California Highway Patrol said an 80-year-old Ontario man was driving a Ford Explorer westbound on I-10 at an unknown speed when the vehicle crashed into the center divider.

The Ford Explorer came to rest blocking the No. 3 and No. 4 lanes.

Authorities said the driver sustained minor injuries, while another occupant suffered moderate injuries. Emergency responders transported both people to a hospital for treatment.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. CHP officials said alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Legal Support After Single-Vehicle Crashes and Passenger Injuries

A single-vehicle crash can still cause serious injuries and lasting consequences, especially when a vehicle strikes a center divider on a busy freeway.

Sweet Lawyers sends sincere support to the two people injured in this Whitewater crash and hopes they make a full and steady recovery.

Even when officials report that alcohol or drugs were not factors, many other issues may need careful review after a collision.

Investigators may examine vehicle speed, roadway conditions, tire failure, mechanical problems, driver health, visibility, lane conditions, traffic flow, and whether any road hazard contributed to the crash.

These details can be important for understanding what happened and protecting the rights of those injured.

Passengers injured in a single-vehicle accident may have legal options. A passenger generally does not control how the vehicle is operated, yet they may suffer the consequences of a crash through medical bills, pain, missed work, emotional distress, and long-term recovery needs.

Injuries initially described as minor or moderate can still require follow-up care, physical therapy, imaging, medication, and time away from normal activities.

After a freeway crash, medical documentation is especially important. Neck pain, back injuries, headaches, soft tissue trauma, nerve issues, and internal injuries may not fully appear until hours or days later.

Victims should follow medical recommendations and keep records of treatment, expenses, symptoms, and any limitations caused by the crash.

Insurance claims after single-vehicle crashes can become complicated, particularly when passengers are injured.

Insurance companies may move quickly, but an early settlement may not reflect future medical care, lost income, pain, or long-term complications.
