Police Investigate Head-On Crash on Varner Road in Thousand Palms

Thousand Palms, CA (January 20, 2026) – Authorities continued investigating a serious head-on crash on Varner Road that left two adults with major injuries late Monday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Varner Road, west of Cook Street. 

Officers determined that a Hyundai traveling eastbound on Varner Road collided head-on with a Toyota traveling westbound. 

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Emergency responders transported two adult occupants involved in the crash to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where they were treated for major injuries. 

CHP Officer David Torres stated that alcohol or drugs are not believed to have played a role in the collision.

The investigation remains ongoing.
